CoMO Camp Kind Day 5: Be Kind to Helpers

Welcome back to another day of Camp Kind! On this fifth day we’re going to focus on how to Be Kind to Helpers. If you missed previous days, you find the whole list of days here on our main Camp Kind page. We’ll list out a few ideas on being kind to helpers below, but we know there are other ways too. If you’ve got an idea of how to shower kindness on those who are helping, definitely do that! Share on social media using #comocampkind so that we can see your amazing ideas. You can tag us @comosepta on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. And if you’re following along with CPS Spirit Week, slip on your school colors while you do today’s activities.

Craft Corner – Chalk Art

For today’s craft, it’s time to break out the sidewalk chalk! Decorate your driveway or a sidewalk with messages of encouragement and kindness to those who might pass by. And if the weather turns out that you can’t do this today, you can always decorate pieces of paper with thank yous and caring messages and hang them in a window facing outwards. Hanging up a heart is an especially great way to show your appreciation to any passing helpers – healthcare workers, law enforcement, grocery workers, delivery drivers, mail carriers, sanitation workers, and so many more have been helping out during these past couple months.

Activity – Share a thank you

A garbage truck and a mail truck are pictured, along with text which reads "Thank you to those who help keep us safe, clean, fed, healthy, and connected."

The activity for today is similar to above, but a little more personal. Think of someone who has been helping throughout these past couple months, and find a way to thank them. Our sanitation workers have been keeping our city clean – maybe you can sit out and wave and thank them when they come by. Our mail carriers have been busy keeping us connected via the mail – maybe you can leave a note in or on your mailbox thanking them for their hard work. Our grocery and restaurant workers have been keeping the stores and restaurants running so that we can stay fed – maybe you can make a sign for your yard that thanks them when they drive past. And there are so many more people who are helping! If you know a helper personally, you can call them up or send them a card to show your thanks.

Food Fix – “Camp out” Food

Today’s food idea is open to interpretation. Since this is “Camp” Kind, we’re challenging you to choose a “camp out” food and have that, whether it’s a meal or a snack. It could be that you always grill out when you camp, or maybe you have hot dogs, or maybe you think of ka-bobs or the raisins & peanuts you grab for a snack. Whatever campout food is to you. 🙂 We had a couple young friends who said a Banana Boat was a necessity for camp food. After trying it out the Banana Boat recipe here, we agree it’s pretty tasty!
