Hey everyone, welcome back to the second day of Camp Kind! We hope you all had fun celebrating your amazing teachers yesterday. Today’s theme is Be Kind to Animals! We’ll list out a few ideas below, but you don’t have to feel limited to those. If you’ve got another way to show kindness to animals, you can do that too! Share on social media using #comocampkind so that we can see your amazing ideas. You can tag us @comosepta on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Craft Corner – Bird or Butterfly Feeder

For today’s craft, we’ll use some things you might have at home to make a feeder for birds or butterflies. There are several ways you can make one, and you can pick your favorite or make something new! You can make a bird feeder by spreading peanut butter on a pinecone, rolling it in birdseed, and hanging it in a tree. If you don’t have birdseed handy, you can string some cereal on a string or pipe cleaner to hang out for your feathered friends. Just make sure that it’s only a small amount, as they get more nutrition from other sources. 🙂 And for a final option, you can use an empty milk or juice carton to make a feeder. Rinse it out well, cut a hole on one side, and scatter food around the bottom. Try birdseed, raisins or other dried fruit, unsalted seeds or nuts, bits of cereal. For a butterfly feeder, they love sweet things and bright colors. You can use a plastic lid, a pie tin, mason jar lid, etc. Poke a few holes around the edge to tie a string through (add beads if you have them – the colors will catch the butterfly’s attention). Then set out cut pieces of fruit (oranges, strawberries, bananas) or even sponges soaked in sugar water.
Activity – Animal Walks

Our activity today will have you acting like an animal yourself. Join us in doing some animal walks! A young friend demonstrated a few of his favorites – bear walk, bunny hop, and crab walk – in the pictures above, but you don’t have to stop there. If you’re following along with CPS Spirit Week, today is Vacation Day. Think about what animals there might be at your favorite vacation destination. How do they get around? You could try waddling like a penguin, flapping like a bird, slide like a seal… how creative can you be? We can’t wait to see your ideas!
Food Fix – Make an Animal
After all that fun, you may have worked up an appetite. Today we’ll be having animal-themed snacks! You can grab something as easy as animal crackers or goldfish crackers, or we’ll teach you how to make a banana caterpillar or bear toast below.
Banana Caterpillar
1. Slice a banana.
2. Arrange the circles into the shape of a caterpillar inching along.
3. Add details like eyes, legs, and antennae using blueberries, raisins, chocolate chips, pretzel sticks, etc.
Alternative – You could use strawberries or kiwi sliced in rounds to make the caterpillar segments as well. Or slice some veggies instead for a more savory snack.
Bear Toast
1. Spread nut butter on a slice of toast.
2. Create a face using fruit (banana slices, berries, raisins all work well).
Alternative – One young friend wanted a polar bear, so he started with a bagel spread with cream cheese. We love that creativity!
