The next few weeks are serving up some events in the community that may be of interest to you. We’ll gather them up here.
Kicking October off strong is this Special Education Station from MoDE Foundation. It’s this Saturday, 10/1, from 9am to noon at the ARC. This FREE clinic will have attorneys and advocates available to discuss special education/disability issues and resources. It is child-friendly and there will be a sensory area.
Next up we have a fun one for all the big vehicle lovers among us: sensory friendly Touch A Truck! Columbia Parks & Rec has this to say about the event: “Sensory Friendly Touch-a-Truck returns to Cosmo Park next Wednesday, Oct. 5! This free event is designed specifically for kids and families who find the loud noises and bright lights of Tons of Trucks to be overwhelming. Touch-a-Truck features many vehicles, but the lights, horns and sirens stay off.” Head to the parking lot near Rainbow Softball fields from 4-6pm on 10/5 to enjoy this one.
And of course we don’t want you to miss out on the Box-filling Bash, Saturday 10/15 from 10 to noon! One of CoMO SEPTA’s programs is Party in a Box, to make it easier for our district classrooms to have holiday parties as well. Each box comes loaded with decorations, snacks, and activities that ensure a fun time for the students. We’re happy to say that we received a grant this year to cover all of the boxes for the district rooms. Celebration all around! We hope you can join us as we load up these boxes ahead of the year’s first party, and partake in some fun conversation as we go! Location details are TBD
Want to enjoy the Mizzou Homecoming Parade but need a sensory-friendly place? We just learned that Mizzou’s got you covered this year! Head to the corner of 5th and Broadway on the morning of 10/22/22. Details received from an organizer: “Essentially, our parade participants will stop playing, sounding sirens, honking, etc., but will continue to smile and wave while walking through this area to accommodate everyone’s comfort levels. We hope this area will increase our parade’s inclusivity.”
Do you know of any amazing inclusive events that we missed? Let us know in an email to comosepta@gmail.com and we’ll add them to our list!
