CoMO SEPTA’s efforts to urge the district to revise the current recording policy have gotten some news coverage recently. On Monday morning, the CPS school board Policy Committee met. They voted to have the issue go before the full school board in June, with the recommendation that it only be altered to allow for recording in cases of disability of the guardian.
For more details, you can check out the news coverage of Monday’s meeting below:

KRCG 13 – CPS considers policy change to allow parents to record meetings
93.9 – was asked on Wake Up Columbia and the topic is discussed at 16min
CoMO SEPTA’s position is that recording should be allowed to facilitate meaningful involvement of parents and students in their IEP/504 meetings. If you support parents being able to record these meetings, consider e-mailing the school board members and letting them know how you feel about the issue. You don’t have to be a parent of a child in special education. Our whole community’s opinion matters. We’d love to hear from you too.
