The past couple weeks have been full of fun for us.

CoMO SEPTA hosted a Sensory Room at Fun Fest

On Friday, October 19 we got to host our first Sensory Space. This is something we’ve been wanting to do since the beginning, as having a “calm room” can make otherwise chaotic school events more accessible to those who need a spot to decompress before rejoining the fun. Our president, Michelle Ribaudo, helped supervise in the space and had this to say about it right after: “We had 57 kids visit the Calm Room tonight. I even had one boy (who visited multiple times) ask me if I could come to school on Monday and set it up for him again. ❤️❤️❤️ Then he brought me a couple of cookies and cupcakes to say thanks. So worth it! A couple of times it could not have been called calm, but those who needed it seemed to enjoy it. Thanks to Sara Rivera for help setting up and Melanie Camden for monitoring.” And a thank you to Mill Creek as well, for setting aside a room for this! If you’d like CoMO SEPTA to set up the traveling Sensory Space at an event for any school in the district, please contact us at comosepta@gmail.com

CoMO SEPTA's Scoopie Night fundraiser

On Tuesday, Oct 23 we held a “Scoopie Night” fundraiser. Once again, we were so grateful to our amazing community who showed up in support of special education – and  in support of having a night off of supper duty. Ha! There were several of us there to help deliver orders to tables or run them out to those waiting in the drive through lane. Most of us adults didn’t get to do too much delivering, the kids were so eager to be the ones to help out. Thank you to Culver’s for letting us host this event there, and thank you to all the wonderful folks who came to enjoy the food and make our students’ days brighter.

On Friday, October 26, CoMO SEPTA was invited to host a trunk at Battle Elementary’s Trunk or Treat. Due to the weather, said “trunk” turned into a table when the event was moved inside.. but I think our friendly monster looks just as smashing adorning a table as he would have on a trunk. There were goodies for all, including allergy-friendly treats so that no one visiting the friendly monster had to go away empty-handed. Thank you, Battle Elementary, for letting us be a part of your event!

And, on a very exciting final note, our Kindness shirts arrived with Wednesdays mail! We’re separating and double-checking orders, but for those of you who had them shipped to us.. they are here, and will be ready to hand out to you at this month’s meeting! (11/14, 6pm, Center for Early Learning on Smiley Ln.) If you need an alternate time to be arranged, don’t hesitate to reach out – comosepta@gmail.com I can’t wait to see all the messages of kindness being sported!
